The types of Historical books I like to read are:
Fiction or Non-Fiction;
Biographies;
Mysteries;
Alternative History (Sci-Fi/Fantasy);
Time-slips;
Ghost Stories and
Celtic Tales.
As you can see HISTORY is a very important part of the types of books I like to read.
I find there is nothing more satisfying, than reading a book which combines historical fiction, with a haunting mystery, modern suspense and has elements of the supernatural/paranormal such as a time-slip genre.
Two of my all time favourite authors who write this type of genre are Susanna Kearsley and Barbara Erskine.
