About Me

I have always been an avid reader and history has always been a passion of mine. I am a huge historical fiction fan, who also enjoys reading gothic tales with chills and thrills, mystery and suspense and who loves stepping back in time..... A quote I once read stated: I don't live in the past..the past lives in me!.. Perhaps that's why I am a Family History/Genealogy Addict too!

SUNSHINE AWARD

THE SUNSHINE AWARD
The Sunshine Award is an award given by bloggers to other bloggers. The recipients of the Sunshine Award are “bloggers who positively and creatively inspire others in the blogosphere.” The way the award works is this: thank the person who gave you the award, and link back to them. Then answer questions about yourself. Finally, select up to 10 of your favorite bloggers, link their blogs to your post, and let them know they have been awarded the Sunshine Award!

I was amazed and delighted to have received this award from my fellow blogger, Charlie Chouinard.  Charlie is an amazing person, who's blog "Charlie Books..." is a delight and so interesting to read.  Charlie has so much book knowledge and a fellow bookseller too.
I want to Thank You So Much Charlie!, you have made my Day, Month, Year with this nomination.  Please check out Charlie's blog at:             http://charliebooks.blogspot.ca/

My Ten Questions:

1) What inspired you to start blogging?
Books are my life, in fact I am a Bookseller in the largest Bookstore chain in Canada Chapters/Indigo and I love my job.  One of the things I found, is that I really, really enjoy talking to others about books I have read and love recommending books I have loved.  The other thing about me is that I am nuts about History especially British  History.  I wanted to share my knowledge and love of books and history with others in the book community that have the same interests.

2)How did you come up with the name of your blog?
Funny enough, I had tossed the name around for a few years now, not so much as a blog name but as a name for a Book Store.  I always dreamed of owning a book store that specialized in the Historical Genre.  Whether the books were non-fiction or fiction.  This would include different genres within the Historical Fiction category such as gothic, romance, mystery, paranormal, celtic and horror.  I though the historical fiction genre would be a group of odds and sods and that's how I came up with the name.  When I decided I wanted to write a blog about historical type books, I decided to use this name.

3)What is your favourite blog that you like to read?
Of course I am partial to those blogs about History and Historical fiction, but I also love to read blogs about books of all types.  I admire many bloggers and their blogs, but if I had to pick one it would have to be "Sarah's History" blog at www.sarahshistoryblog.wordpress.com

4)What would be your dream job?
To be paid to read books of course!..maybe be an Archaeologist/Historian as well!

5)If you could spend the day with  8 authors discussing novels as a group, who would you invite (past or present authors)?
Oh Wow, my dream would be to invite Susanna Kearsley, Barbara Erskine, Diana Norman (aka Ariana Franklin), Sharon Penman, Helen Hollick, Daphne Du Maurier, Morgan Llywelyn and Jennifer Donnelly... But I would need longer than a day, how about a weekend retreat? Ha! Ha!

6) where is your favourite place to travel?
It would have to be Great Britain and Ireland.  There is so much History there.  So much to see, it would take a life time to see it all.  Not to mention, how beautiful it is!

7) What is your favourite book out of all the books you have read?
Well, that's like asking a mother to pick her favourite child, I love them all!
I will have to say, that the most beautiful book I have ever read is possibly, The Shadows of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon.  This gothic novel is what a lot of people would refer to as a "marmite" book, you either love or you hate it. I loved it of course!

8) What was your favourite book as a child and how did it influence your choice in books today?
Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.  I remember my father reading it to me first.  Then when I was old enough to read it by myself, I was hooked.  Who wouldn't love an adventure tale about pirates, buried treasure, mystery, suspense and danger!  After reading this book, I turned to classics and became a huge Charles Dicken's fan.  I loved reading about the Victorian era and the history and sociality of the times...it was the best of times, it was the worst of times...and I love to read about them all!

9)How much time do you spend blogging?
As I have just started blogging (about a month now), I have not got into a rhythm as of yet, so it's a bit sporadic.  Probably only an hour or two a week, but once I get a lot more comfortable and get my book reviews in order, I would ideally like to spend an hour a day blogging in the long run.

10) Last Question,  what would you say to your favourite Authors, if you got the chance?
I certainly admire many authors and I am truly grateful to all of them for donating their time and energy in writing their stories, entertaining us through their novels, by introducing us to interesting characters,  taking  us to wonderful places, helping  us experience such adventures, and awaken our senses.  Life would be so dull without their contributions to our lives in the way of stories and there is no greater gift, then the joy they bring to those who read their books such as myself.  Thank you!!!
